Cinema Guard Privacy Policy
**Last Updated: 4 November 2026** Cinema Guard mutes swearing in films and videos. It comes as a Windows app for your own video files and as a [browser extension](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/cinema-guard/maidlcfjpdcmfbbkdbijfhegbbnoicfn) for videos you watch online. This policy covers both. WaveBit's general [Privacy Policy](/privacy-policy) covers this website. ## Browser extension Cinema Guard does not collect, sell or share any personal information. Nothing is sent to WaveBit or to anyone else. * **Captions:** to find the words to mute, the extension reads the captions of the video you are watching, inside your browser. On YouTube it asks YouTube for the video's caption file, the same file YouTube's own player uses. On other sites it reads the subtitles the site already shows or downloads. * **Your word lists and settings** are kept in your browser's storage. If you use your browser's sync, your browser copies them to your other browsers through your browser account; WaveBit never sees them. * **Statistics** (how many words were muted, which words and in which videos) stay on your computer. You can clear them at any time on the extension's Statistics page. * **Where it runs:** on YouTube, and on another site only after you turn it on for that site yourself. You can turn a site off again at any time. * **No tracking:** the extension has no analytics, no advertising and no account. The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. ## Windows app Cinema Guard for Windows works on your own computer. Speech recognition runs on your PC and your films never leave it. * The app goes online only to download the tools and speech models it needs, to check wavebit.dev for updates and to search OpenSubtitles when you choose Download subtitles. None of these requests carries information about you or your films. * If you choose to use your own speech recognition server (Models, Your own server), the film's audio is sent to the server you set up, and nowhere else. * Settings, transcripts and logs are stored on your PC. Transcripts are removed after 30 days unless you use them again. ## Questions Ask on [GitHub](https://github.com/nieuwoudtza/Cinema-Guard/issues), or contact WaveBit's Information Officer as set out in our [Privacy Policy](/privacy-policy).
